CreIBT: Leveraging AI for More Efficient and Effective Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment is widely utilized to address malocclusion conditions such as underbite, overbite, crowding, and teeth rotation. Although invisible aligners offer enhanced comfort and aesthetics, traditional bracket orthodontics remain popular due to factors like cost, treatment duration, and specific indications. In such cases, the use of an IBT (Indirect Bonding Tray) and our CreIBT module can augment orthodontic treatment outcomes and improve chairside efficiency.

This article provides a brief overview of IBT use and highlights how SHINING 3D’s CreIBT module can support orthodontists in their daily practice.

What’s an IBT?

IBT is short for “Indirect Bonding Tray”, which is an essential tool used in orthodontic treatment for bonding brackets (Fig 1). This tool is designed to accurately and simultaneously bond multiple brackets to the patient’s teeth.

On one hand, this tool helps orthodontists save time, compared to single bracket placement. On the other hand, IBTs are customized based on each tooth’s position and morphology. Hence, it ensures more precise bracket placement, eliminating any manual bonding deviations.

Consequently, this significantly enhances bonding efficiency and accuracy, ultimately improving treatment outcomes (Fig 2).

What’s the CreIBT Module?

CreIBT is a new addition to  SHINING 3D Dental’s Intraoral scan software (Fig 3). This module is engineered to assist orthodontists in IBT model creation, with artificial intelligence support all throughout the design process.

CreIBT guides you through teeth segmentation, FA point recognition, bracket placement, and IBT model creation. In just a few clicks, you can export a 3D printable IBT file straight to your 3D printer.

In line with the rest of the software, this module offers a user-friendly interface. It’s easy to use, no matter your level of experience in digital dentistry or 3D technologies.

Which Resin Can You Use for IBT Printing?

SHINING 3D is currently developing a specially formulated IBT resin in-house. Until it is ready, we recommend using third-party resins.

Our dental 3D printer is compatible with a variety of resin brands, providing a wide range of options for printing (Fig 5).
